064G1, which experienced its first freeze while a bud just emerging from the
base of the fan, and which has been "tented" since then, has now withstood
several freezing nights and is 19 1/2 inches tall. The tomato stakes
supporting the covering have been replaced with a tomato cage, and a 3d
Christmas tree bulb has been added. So far, so good. Ferocious winds
yesterday and today ripped off a large grocery sack intended to provide extra
heat retention, so it's been replaced by a second old work shirt. So far, so
good. The crew that came today to take down the maple tree that wasn't
shading the house but was shading the iris beds found the plant with its own
parka and an electric cord running to it quite intriguing. -- Griff
