Mike -- I agree with Bob Pries. The bloom times between classes overlap. Border beardeds bloom late enough -- along with the TBs -- that they are pretty well distinguishable by that factor, along with proportions. But in my location in Zone 7a in northern Virginia, some SDBs pop up along with the MDBs, and some IBs last into the TB season. Also, many SDBs here (my own as well as other introduced varieties) grow more like MDBs. -- Griff----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Greenfield" <mgreenfield@cinci.rr.com>To: <iris@hort.net> Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 2:29 PM Subject: Re: [iris] HYB: Iris ClassAccording to The Judges Handbook it does not qualify as a SDB because the bloom is too small and stalk is too short. MDB will not work because bloom is to late. Thus the seedling is not introducible. A small iris that could bloom south of the MOB will not be this seedling.Gruff does 05M1 bloom with the Mobs Judges Handbook:Definition: Bearded iris up to 25 cm (10 inches) in height. Stems are usually unbranched; Flowers are 4 to 7.5 cm (1.6 to 3 inches) wide; earliest blooming of all bearded iris and with pure I. pumila usually the first to bloom.Mike Greenfield----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Silverberg" <sil1812@molalla.net>To: <iris@hort.net> Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 11:42 AM Subject: Re: [iris] HYB: Iris ClassMike and Loic:If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, etc., etc. If it meets all the criteria set forth in the Judges Handbook......... that's all that's necessay.--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
