Thanks Dave. I had no idea winter daytime high temperatures were normally so <cold> in iris heaven. If our daytime high was 10oF here, nights would be well below zero.
When I moved here nearly 40 yrs ago, it was normal most winters for the surface of the soil to freeze around Christmas and stay frozen most of the time until late Jan/early Feb, but high temperatures would still usually get above freezing during the day. The last several winters, it has rarely gotten cold enough to freeze the ground for more than a night or two. Our average winter high temperatures are in the mid 40s now.
