Year to year (and region to region) weather/climate effects sure don't make it easy to sort this stuff out! Pigments and patterns are easy in comparison.
Sounds like your "cycle" plants aren't daylength regulated. Might be more like "summers" here. Which ones bloomed earlier than usual for you this year?
