Guess I misunderstood. I thought people said they were putting them

in and out the frig until everything sprouted--picking a few out each time.

I've always been suprized that any seeds sprout at statification
emperatures.? Bearded Iris are very unique in this way.? In any case
ermination? at his temperature is very slow.
Once? germination conditions are met. seeds will sprout, and will sprout and
row beter at room temperature. So no reason to have them remain any longer in
ridge.
Obviously the random factor is how long it takes to remove anti-germination
hemicals? by the slow soak in burrito rather then in soak and rince. But
ssuming it happens at same rate for all seeds, no? obvious benefit from a
onger stay in fridge.
Personally I would think 6 weks in fridge (after soaking) and then planting
hould be all that is needed.

Linda, as we all know, I don't go the burrito route, but you have peaked my
uriosity.
Why are you potting them all up now rather than putting them back in the
ridge to continue germination?

or various reasons, this year's burritos were handled differently from
evious years'. Pods were shelled, seeds dried, then burrito'd without
y soaking. Paper towels were barely moist.
fter ~3 months in the fridge @ 40 to 45oF, dried seeds are starting to
rminate without any soaking.
ecause quite a few <fresh> seeds germinated after only 2 months at
ese warmer fridge temps last year, I had concluded that this year's
ried> seeds weren't going to germinate without any rinsing/soaking,
t apparently it just took a little longer.
ost went in the fridge in mid September, some a week or so later.
rosses are all TBs, fairly similar genetic background as in the past -
stly IMM, RENOWN, HARVEST OF MEMORIES, MATRIX, mixed with various west
ast-Oz pollen & my seedlings from same. Seems like there is an OCT
LENDOR seedling pod parent, some from KIWI CHEESECAKE.
nly a few seeds have sprouted, but I'm going to go ahead and pot them
l up, water them and keep my fingers crossed that enough will
rminate to give me some plants big enough to line out this spring
fore I get busy with bloom season. Too hot and dry in gravel soil
re to plant after bloom season unless we get a week's rainy spell.
