<<Only a few seeds have sprouted, but I'm going to go ahead and pot them all up, water them and keep my fingers crossed that enough will erminate to give me some plants >> Linda, as we all know, I don't go the burrito route, but you have peaked my curiosity. Why are you potting them all up now rather than putting them back in the fridge to continue germination? Betty -----Original Message----- From: Linda Mann <lmann@lock-net.com> To: iris <iris@hort.net> Sent: Sat, Dec 18, 2010 12:25 pm Subject: [iris] HYB: burrito germination experiment For various reasons, this year's burritos were handled differently from revious years'. Pods were shelled, seeds dried, then burrito'd without ny soaking. Paper towels were barely moist. After ~3 months in the fridge @ 40 to 45oF, dried seeds are starting to erminate without any soaking. Because quite a few <fresh> seeds germinated after only 2 months at hese warmer fridge temps last year, I had concluded that this year's dried> seeds weren't going to germinate without any rinsing/soaking, ut apparently it just took a little longer. Most went in the fridge in mid September, some a week or so later. Crosses are all TBs, fairly similar genetic background as in the past - ostly IMM, RENOWN, HARVEST OF MEMORIES, MATRIX, mixed with various west oast-Oz pollen & my seedlings from same. Seems like there is an OCT PLENDOR seedling pod parent, some from KIWI CHEESECAKE. Only a few seeds have sprouted, but I'm going to go ahead and pot them ll up, water them and keep my fingers crossed that enough will erminate to give me some plants big enough to line out this spring efore I get busy with bloom season. Too hot and dry in gravel soil ere to plant after bloom season unless we get a week's rainy spell.
