I haven't changed my view on this. It needs more data, that is a cross of Suky with a glaciata , and more then 20 seedlings, for the disproof. Less if you get a glaciata and a luminata in a lower number of seedlings. But, I strongly suspect that Ae, combined with "I" play a role here. and these need to be teased out as well. For example. Troubadour's Song X Suky (both pastel blues) produced Exit tunnel, a very dark blue zonal. Can only happen if one or both (which is what I suspect) have Ae plus "I". So it would likely take more then one cross to tease out. And as you know, most people are ignoring Ae and it's combination with "I" . It can't be sorted out without this information. So for my money, Suky has pl-lu at least once, but not more then two, and pl-a at least two, perhaps three, plus Ae plus "I", dosages unknown. Chuck Chapman -----Original Message----- From: Linda Mann <lmann@lock-net.com> To: iris <iris@hort.net> Sent: Fri, Dec 21, 2012 2:20 pm Subject: [iris] HYB: zonal genetics This is mostly a question for Chuck, but others please chime in. Back in 2004, there was a lot of discussion here about the genetics of zonals and their relationship to the plicata locus, luminatas inparticular. Comments from Chuck Chapman, Fred Kerr, Lloyd Zurbrigg, and
Neil Mogensen. (miss those latter two guys a lot)At that time, there was speculation that both CLARENCE and SUKY have one
or more doses of glaciata and/or 4 doses of luminata, possibly combined with dominant amoena. Supposedly, Keith Keppel had been working on a definition of zonal. I have quite a bit of SUKY in the mix now, plus managed to get one pod using Keith's glaciata SUN SHINE IN.Is the presence of luminata or glaciata genes in SUKY known for sure now?
I didn't find anything more recent than 2004 in the archives, searching for zonal or for Suky.
