CULT: Spring Growth

From: "Donald Eaves" <donald@eastland.net>

I don't know what it's doing 100 miles east over in Dallas, but
in my small dot west of Dallas is seeing the spring growth
start on the irises. I was hoping the last several nights of temps
reaching as low as 20 degrees F would slow them, but they
seemed to have reached that stage where they are prepared to
grow anytime the weather warms. I guess the number of warm
days we have seen this winter combined with the increasing day
length has sent the signal start growing. Probably 90% of anything
with aril content is well up and growing and probably 70-80% of the
TBs have started new active growth. I can see it daily now. Even
some which have the tendency to go nearly totally dormant during
the winter season are beginning to show new growth. Probably
not hopeful for avoiding a spring freeze on bloomstalks. The
spurias and LAs are also showing more rapid growth and most of
the Sibs have new fans emerging. Too early. And still no rain to
speak of.

the number I'm looking in the eye everyday.
