Mike;  I don't know abut back East, but so far we are having a mild winter.
Normally we get a dusting of snow around Thangsgiving.  This year we have
not had any yet, tonight it is suppose to get down to 4,000 ft.
    It appears that even though your temperatures are norm the upper
atmosphere is still a little warmer then normal and that may or may not
contribute to your early growth.  which we have also.
