A while back Patrick Orr started a small thread on watering
pots with warm water. Any results yet? In a similar vein, all
my seeds were planted into individual pots, then sunk in a
two-sided galvanized wash tup on legs. In summer, this is
where I sink pots of achimenes. Since I have had trouble
with armadillos digging in pots sunk in the flower beds and
wreaking havoc on germinating iris seeds, I decided to put
the pots out of reach (this being the first year of hand pollinated
seeds which I found unwilling to risk). It being unusually dry
this year, I have kept them watered. One pot was a bee
pollinated grandmother iris pod, so as an experiment I moved
it inside last weekend on an unheated glassed-in porch, but still
considerably warmer than the outside temps. Voila! First seed
today. Didn't take long. This evening I watered with slightly
warm water. I'll be curious to see how many seeds germinate
in the next several weeks. I'll not be happy if in the long run only
this pot germinates.
