Re: CULT: iris seeds

From: "Patrick Orr" <PatrickJOrr@hotmail.com>

Yes, as a matter of fact, the first few seeds have germinated this last
week. I do not know if it is a result of watering with luke-warm water in
the mornings or if it is just time for them to start germinating. I am
sooooo excited.

I had planted about 100 seeds given to me by hybridizer Adam Mueller, and 12
seeds from my own cross. One seed from my own cross has germinated
(yesterday) and three Mueller seeds have germinated in the last week.

As stated previously, a controlled test with luke-warm water must be
conducted before any credence can be given to it, and since I did not start
off doing this, I cannot make any assumptions as to any benefits it may
hold. Two pots, both with seeds from the same pod will have to be used.
One pot would have to be watered with luke warm water, the other with cold
water until germination. Both pots must be given the exact same conditions
except for the luke warm water in order to get accurate results. This test
will need to be conducted many times with many different types of iris seeds
before any conclusions can be drawn.

The seeds from my cross were planted last July, and the Mueller seeds were
planted November 1, but had been in the refrigerator for two or three months
prior. They are both germinating at the same time. Since they were not
given the same conditions there is no way any assumptions can be made for
the test.

Later in the fall when I am getting ready to start the experiment, I will
make a post to the list. I would be interested to hear from others in
different areas of the country who will be interested in trying out this
test parallel to mine.
