I had to go look it up. My daughter just gave me a new book, The
Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials, and I remember that it has a lovely
zone chart as the inside cover of the book. It says I am in zone 8.
The Encyclopedia has lovely pictures of many perennials, including iris...
many examples of species. I had to look at the Iris douglasiana (PCI),
which grows here on the coast... and I had to laugh. It sure looks to me
like the picture of douglasiana is a picture of siberians. In any case,
I've never seen a clump of douglasiana bloom like that picture!
Kitty
(where the sweet peas are growing nicely... they love this cold weather...
should make a nice backdrop behind the iris in May.)
