Re: CULT: Soap, Damping Off, and Gnats

From: "Martha Brown" <mbrown@pldi.net>

Anner,

I don't know about fungus gnats but fruit gnats
can be trapped with a glass or jar of sugar water
with a squirt of liquid dish soap mixed in it.
Have a friend who uses wine with the liquid dish
soap but the sugar water works fine for me. Leave
it sit out in the area where the gnats are flying
about. Dump and wash jar when a lot of gnats have
drowned and you can't stand it any longer. Start
with new solution.

Karene, that is a useful thing to know! The fungus
gnats problem was bugging
me [tee hee hee] this evening when I went into the
plant room to water things
and sure enough, right on schedule, there were a
few buzzing around, a sure
sign of more to come. I thank you for sharing that
information. Do you see
any problems with using this several times on
house plants that are not due
to be repotted, or does one good drench of the
soap solution knock the gnats
out for good?

I went ahead and redid your subject line for you.
I thought that CULT was
probably a good tag here since we are talking
about cultural practices and
problems.
