I haven't noticed any difference in vase life amongst different
cultivars of bearded irises, but do be warned that the really dark
pigmented flowers (e.g., DUSKY CHALLENGER) will drip inky goo on
furniture as soon as the flowers fold. Just for fun, I used some of it
on a watercolor doodle of an iris - works pretty well...
Following listers' advice for adding stuff to vase water, I keep a 2
liter bottle of Sprite on hand for mine and add a slug of Sprite and a
dash of Clorox to each new vase. TB stalks will often last a week or
more, but get pretty scraggly (is that a word?).
My favorite cut flower iris is the Louisiana - a single stalk of the
large, flat, tailored blooms is wonderfully elegant and seems to last a
long time, but I can't remember for sure.
