Rose--deer here in this part of Virginia generally leave irises alone.
Bearded irises have never been damaged here by deer, but Louisianas have.
We had some deer bites on virginicas and versicolors as well as a few
spurias when they were the only green things sticking up from the snow.
I have found that dried blood, scattered on plants after each rain, is an
extremely effective deer and rabbit deterrent, so much so that I can grow
tulips and lilies again. It can be purchased in 3 lb bags or boxes in
nearly any garden center.
