CULT: Deer and Irises

From: Judyhunt1@aol.com

Hello Talkers,

We have been growing irises on our two acres for nearly twenty-five years.
Until this winter I was certain that the deer herd that inhabits our area
would not eat irises. They would stomp an occasional rhizome into the
ground, but that was fairly easy to deal with. However, I was too smug.
Because of the drought of last year there is not enough of their usual browse
and they have decimated our bearded irises. Much to my chagrin, we have
decided that we have only two choices -- install fencing or stop growing the
plants we love. We are installing fencing.
