Reports on this differ. The received wisdom takes three forms: (1) deer don't
eat irises (2) deer will eat anything when they get desperate enough (3) deer
don't eat irises or at least not much but they sure do trample them.
As I recall people in your neck of the woods had more problems than people in
mine although our population is growing, and the problem with it. If you have
a lot of deer problems and the fencing is an option I think you probably
should consider going that route.
There is a good deal of very useful discussion and information on this

term. Note that you need to select all the years and roll down the number of
posts displayed to get a lot of posts in at once.
