One of the few examples of plants that resulted from tetraploid
conversion using Surflan mentioned in the above website was the
variegated Hosta, PATRIOT. From catalog photos it appears that
PATRIOT has some of the highest contrast variegated leaves
among Hostas.

I wonder if variegated iris seed or seedlings treated with Surflan
or Colchicine might also yield tetraploid plants with increased
contrast in their leaves' variegation. Or maybe the parents of
PATRIOT had high contrast variegated leaves to begin with?
