Sonya,
I tried sending the below message a day or so ago, and it somehow
managed to bounce.

<< Sonya,
It is great to see you back. How many Louisiana Irises do you grow? I
have slowly been adding a few more, and have them in kiddie pools that I
have
sunk into the soil. I backfill the pools with sand and peat. The
Louisianas
love it. One, PROFESSOR SIGMUND is showing some buds now, so I hope we
don't
 get another freeze.
You asked about what Zone you are in. At the time, I don't know of
Zone
maps for New Zealand. You may be able to come up with a good estimate. The
zones are based on the average lowest temperature each winter. I am in USDA
Zone 8b, which means that most winters will see temperatures bottom out
between 15 F and 20 F. [It really does get that cold in this part of
Florida.] The following may help you some:

 Zone 6: -10 F to 0 F
 Zone 7: 0 F to 10 F
 Zone 8: 10 F to 20 F
 Zone 9: 20 F to 30 F
 Zone 10: 30 F to 40 F
 Zone 11: 40 F +
