I have ready access to massive wild clumps that will easily produce a good
quantity of rhizomes, and I might find some interesting information in the
process
of doing this.<<

Kathy,

According to the directions I have for preparing orris root as a fixative,
plan on waiting about 2 years for the rhizomes to cure. This will give you
time to locate a grinder sturdy enough to grind these (by now hard as
rocks) rhizomes into a granular meal.

The properly cured rhizomes should have a fragrance resembling that of
sweet violets.
