The HC is strictly a garden award and cannot be determined by judges
at a show. But,I would say quite a large percentage of HM's and AM's
are awarded on show performance by those judges who come to shows and
do not visit gardens. How many judges were in your garden last
spring and how many returned to see the clump later as it peaked or
declined?
Most of the 'garden judged' HM's and AM's are determined at AIS
conventions and regionals. Would more judges be apt to attend a
convention, regional or a show? I would think that probably 90% of
the active judges in AIS would be involved in at least one show
during the bloom season. (Judges are supposed to enter shows).I
do not think a convention or regional would attract 90% of the judges
in AIS or a region.
Yes, HM's, AM's, and medalists are supposed to be based on garden
judging, but in reality, are they?
