Just for the fun of it I broused the shelves at Wal-Mart today to see
just what did and did not have Triclosan in the dish soaps and liquid
hand soaps. A lot of them had it. In the dish soaps, Dawn, peach
colored, had Triclosan, the other colors and formulations did not.
Other brands had one or more formulations with Triclosan. There were
several.
Handsoaps: Ranged in price over quite a span. Low cost was the Wal-
mart generic "Equate" next to the Dial Antibacterial, which is the
amber colored version--both with Triclosan. The Dial version came in
three sizes--pumper bottle, medium size refill and a large one--on
the order of half gallon. Only the small bottles had labels that
listed the ingredients. "Active...Triclosan."
The Soft-soap version was an emulsion, and I noted Walter had used
it. I did not look to see what else was in the formulation, but it
did have the Triclosan, I believe.
An Internet search using www.google.com for "Triclosan" came up with
both promotional material and some very hostile evaluations of
Triclosan and its safety. A Quantex lab study seemed more balanced,
but gives one pause about this product. Anyone interested might do
the search on Google.
