The Gator's message prompted me to check my pots of japonica. No sign of
buds yet (they're a bit crowded and perhaps did not get the sun they needed
this winter), but I do have a stalk coming on I. 'nova', an unnamed species
said to be intermediate between japonica and the taller wattii (I gather
this new species is to be named for Jean Witt, and the proposer suggested
the name "wittii"-- wittii and wattii in the same section? What a setup
for confusion, especially when you include I. confusa! In any case, the
name properly must be wittae). My 'nova' plants are just a year from
seed--SIGNA seed, of course.
Reticulatas are up and budded but not yet blooming. Six inches of wet snow
predicted for today!
