You are not alone.
Before I got Mesmerizer, which generally starts blooming in January for
me,
my earliest bloom almost always came from the aptly named Harbinger. It
is
a POP (plain old purple), but is very tall and has a nice sweet grapey
scent.
It is the only one remaining from the first irises I bought, 20 years
ago.
It has a special place in my heart.
