Kathy,
Splash Dance is also one of my favorites. Mine right now is in a 1 gallon pot on the side of the house because my soft spot does not allow me to get rid of it just because the garden is full of newer varieties.
I am curious though, since it is blooming for you THIS early if it will reset later on. I have been told it has rebloom tendencies although spuratic.

CULT: Early Bloomers
Spring IS coming! Today in Tempe, AZ at the hotel we were staying at, I saw
a beautiful dark purple Louisana Iris in bloom, with 5 more stalks coming -
then got home here at the ranch near Tucson to find stalks emerging on Splash
Dance (Shepard '87) an aribred that has TB growth habits & is usually my
earliest bloomer. This iris was one of the very first group of irises I ever
bought, and was the best grower of the bunch. (I killed about half of that
first try, but was hooked!) So, I will probably always have a soft spot for
it in my heart, and a spot for it in my garden. I wonder if I am the only
one with a special fondness for those earliest bloomers, even if they aren't
the most stellar of cultivars, otherwise. They seem to mean more that those
who show up as part of a large crowd.
