Once the young lady in question understood the depths of my passion--
for irises--she decided she had better try to learn to like them.  I 
think she misunderstood "Live with them" for "Live ON them."

There's a restaurant in Ontario, Oregon, that I used to frequent 
which offered a tempura dish that included Daylily blossoms dipped in 
batter and deep fat fried (briefly!), along with the more orthodox 
parsley sprigs and carrot curls.  They were delicious.  Squash 
blossoms also were used, depending on the season.  The flora offered 
a certain counterpoint to the shrimp foundation.  I never saw them 
try iris.  Not even Japanese Iris.
