Memorial Day Irises

Hi Colleen,

Jeff Walters told you all about Memorial Day and cemetery irises. In
northern Ohio, Tall Bearded irises also peak around the end of May. SDBs
peak about two to three weeks earlier. They tend to not bloom as well in
warmer climates because of their I. pumila background. What we know as the
cemetery iris is ATROVIOLACEA, a natural hybrid of I. pumila, which is only 5
to 6 inches tall and blooms here in late April.
