Linda,
That's because the Checklists play a shell game with you. Beginning with
the '59 Checklist it is the date of Registration (as indicated by an "R."
before the date), not the date of Introduction, that is included in the
parentheses with the originator's name. The date of Introduction (if any)
is placed at the very end of the entry.
Thus, the form of your second sample entry should be
MAYTAG RED (John Doe, R. 1989). Donald's Nursery 1992.
and the combined entry with all information should read
MAYTAG RED (John Doe, R. 1989) TB, 36", L. Fire engine red. I. computeri X
Paint Shop.
Donald's Nursery 1992.
BTW, there would be no parentheses in the pedigree, unless it included one
or more unregistered seedling.
