OT-BIO: Shirley Mangione

Hi! I joined this list just to get some questions answered. My husband grew up
in northern Indiana.
In the sixties and seventies. His Mother was a great gardener. She loved
iris's and had many of them. However back then there were not all the
different varieties there are now. We are looking for the kind she had the
most of they had yellow centers and white petals with purple stripes and
tips. The purple was almost blue in actual color and the petals were almost
smooth they didn't have lots of ruffles like so many varieties have today. The
bulbs always came out of the ground kind of piggy backed to each other with
spider like roots and the leaves were slightly thinner than most are today.
Please dose anyone know what kind of iris this is and where can we get them?
We have been searching the net and have looked at lots of pictures but can't
find them. He says he saw them in an online catalog last year but they were
sold out and of course he didn't make note of the site. Oh! also he says his
mother didn't dig them up in the winter! She just left them in the ground and
they came back year after year. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can
provide. Shirley Mangione
