After reading Keith's explanation, now I am wondering about irises that have 
the "anthocyanin inhibitor gene".  I believe that there are non-plicata 
irises that posess a dominant gene that keeps the flowers free of the 
water-soluble darker pigments.  Is this what glaciatas have too?  (I don't 
think the glaciata pattern is dominant).  Is the clarity of the color in the 
glaciatas somehow superior to the I-gene irises?
