AIS: Ginny Burton

Clarence Mahan writes:

Dear iris friends.
Today I received a call from Ruth Wilder telling me that Ginny Burton, past president of SJI and the organizer of a number of Japanese iris conventions, died this morning. Ginny served as RVP, Region 5, from 1975 to 1977, and under her leadership AIS membership showed considerable growth in the region.

An email from Pat Brooks advised that Ginny fell two weeks ago and was hospitalized with a broken ankle. She then suffered a stroke which caused her death. I know her many friends will be saddened by this news. Several of you may not have known Ginny, but I can tell you that she was tireless in her support of AIS, SJI and Japanese irises in North America. The world of irises has lost a good friend.

(Note to Shirley Pope: Perhaps you could let Currier know about this. I know was very fond of Ginny.) Sincerely, Clarence Mahan
