Following up on my own question, I did finally find a cross with
introduced parents rather than seedlings (so I know what pattern the
parents have).
MOST STUNNING (1992) has lilac standards, red falls with a rim matching
the standards.
Pod parent STUNNING (1977) sounds like it has the same color & pattern.
I have them both now, & if they bloom, will know for sure.
Pollen parent LILAC WINE (1977) has lilac standards and plum red falls
but NO rim. I've never seen this one in person, but there is a photo in
one of my Schreiner catalogs & it looks like there is a faint suggestion
of a slightly lighter rim, but maybe not.
Unfortunately, I can't go back any farther than that because the pollen
parent of STUNNING is unknown & both parents of LILAC WINE were
seedlings without descriptions.
Since the standards of all three of these cultivars are lilac, I assume
this means that the rim colors are NOT inherited along with the same
colored standards (i.e., one set of 'pattern' genes controlling both
standard and rim pigments).
On the other hand, I don't know that all three have the same intensity
of lilac pigment in the standards, so maybe the intensity of lilac color
in the standards is related to the presence/absence of rims?
??
Blundering along in blessed ignorance - cold dark and pouring down rain
today, tomorrow, Sunday.....
