If you put one pound of lime on a square yard of pH 5 soil and it changed
the pH to 6. You would have to put 100 pounds to change it to 7.

It would not work that way. There are too many variables involved. But it
gives you an idea of how much it takes to make just a small adjustment in
pH.

For example: if you have one gallon of distilled water pH 7.0 and add Y
amount of a pure acid to make the pH 6.0 you would have to add 100 times Y
to bring it down to pH 6.0. This would work and remain stable.

One gallon of hard water ph 7.0 and do the same experement. Within hours the
water would start to return to its original pH of 7.

Anyone know what at what pH that squirrels quit growing?
