Well thats kinda what I do if I ain't gonna be tryin' to use the hide fer
necessities. I jist fix it up so I kin trifle with the heart of one of them
there purdy girls. Some round here say they like soft stuff but I got sum
reserve bout that. If I use that lye to git the hair off it softens the hide
and it ain't as strong but it shore is real soft. But iffin you jist skin tha
critter and let th' hide dry good, then you rub it back and forth, and back
and forth over the corner of yore kitchen table some of that hair 'ul come
off anyway. Then you kin take the sharpest blade on yore pocket knife and
start a cuttin' a spiral from bout the middle of the inside on out. Now that
'ul make you some right fine shoe laces and the rest of the hair 'ul come off
when yore walkin' through the the lookin' round fer flowers. We use them corn
cobs from where we made that hominy for the other necessity. Lordy I jist now
thought, if I could jist figger out how to write our names on em we cud
probly use 'em twice. Hmmm... guessin' not. I 'ud hafta to knowd how ta'
write to do that.

Smiles knowin' sumpin bout shoe laces,
Bill Burleson
