Hi (especially Mr. Smilin' Bill Burleson)
Shoe laces outa squirrel hides you say. . . You are one up on me. . .I
made them out of buck rabbit hides. Worked out just great - those old buck
hides are akin to shoe leather!! Tanned some nice hides too and did some hair
slipping on some just for the experience. Goat skins turned out nice too. .
.used to have several tacked to the wall (in Arkansas).
Squirrel story: A buddy of mine came to my house about 8PM one evening
after getting 4 gray squirrels. He put them on the sink to clean. I came in
and the sink was CRAWLING with fleas! Those *&%$& squirrels were flea
factories! Got them outside and made them suitable to cook. . .pretty darn
good too. I'd have tried something with the fleas but didn't have any good
flea recipes at the time!!
On Iris. . .here it is, mid February and I have had HI bloom (2 blossoms)
and she's got two more coming on. The first blooms were Feb. 5th. An unknown
deep purple is in full bloom and ZINK PINK has a stalk ready to open.
Some "winter weeds" got ahead of me this winter in my bed between the curb
and sidewalk. I finally cleaned it up and found that the iris looked BETTER
than those in the clean, weeded beds. Guess those pesky weeds protected them
from the high winds.
In the back along the wall where my Arilbreds are, Dill reseeded and the
entire bed was absolutely covered with it. . couldn't see an Iris. I finally,
after 3 one hour stints, got that bed cleaned up and again, those iris look so
much greener and healthier than those in clean beds. And nary an aphid! Hmmmm.
. . Dill deters aphids?
