if you are trying to 'order' that type of a living substance that has such a
short shelf life, then the promptness of the stallion's manager is very
crucial. As far as I can see
so far there isn't such a short shelf life with iris

I also tend to be a loyal customer, primarily because I buy repeatedly from
vendors who have satisfied me in the past. Although dried-out iris rhizomes
can usually return to "life", I prefer the rhizomes that have obviously been
dried just long enough to seal the cut-off points.
My choice of sources is based on
1) Experience. Large, fresh rhizomes, was the order correct or
indiscriminately substituted, extras, etc.
2) Selection. Do they have what I want?
3) Price. Where can I get what I want for the best price.
My favorite catalog is Bay View Gardens (I just love Ghio iris). Barry Blyth
and Keith Keppel are also first-class sources of some really special things.
Sutton's, Schreiners, and Cooleys are also sources I will probably use again,
on occasion. Four other sources have been a "never there again" experience.
