I should have also added that the soil type isn't necessarily the culprit in
causing stress. If there is enough rain, ANY soil can become waterlogged.
That is the stressor. Late freeze damage, frost heave, drought followed by
heavy rain, insect damage....all are culprits for increasing the likelihood
of
rot. Most garden plants are adversely affected by these things. We laost
nearly
all of our azaleas due to a wet and waterlogged spring, and two years later
still
have trees showing the effects.
