The road-salt that is spread on my biggest display garden has
not caused any damage...this garden has other perennials and no
damage. In our case, the plows push the salt onto the side-walk
and the side-walk plows which are really snow-blowers hit my
front gardens all winter long. The first year we lived here, I
was frantic thinking the plants were being killed but they
showed no ill effects.
I think the road-salt just dissipates with the huge amount of
snow. I have another smaller garden right near the driveway with
many perennials (only about 4 or 5 irises in that one) and that
garden has about 10 feet of salted snow on it right now. Last
year, it had great bloom. I wonder if the road-salt helps? :-)
