Hi All this is my First post..
I joined this group because I would like to learn a bit about iris....
I live in growing zone 3... Yes it was -42 degrees last week....we do have
snow cover.
We can keep some TB's alive here... siberians, spuria, pseudacorus.....
Versicolor grows wild...
I would love to grow ensata but they are hardy enough for any thing but a
special micro climate..... ensata X might be worth trying...
Are there any cold zone growers on this list?
This weekend I spoke to Bryce Farnsworth of NDSU in Fargo North Dakota....
He has acquired a selection of bearded Iris from a collector who is now in a
nursing home... Some tags are gone... some plants are mixed up... Is there a
way he can match names that he has with pictures.... or pictures with
names??
Bryce looks after a historic hemerocallis collection.... I suppose he is
looking to do the same thing with Iris
I must admit I have not kept the names with my Iris.... many are friendship
plants that I grow in public places...
I know most of you plant in beardeds in August....but I have the best luck
with plants that are spring planted (i.e.. May). The varieties available
then are rather limited in this region.... perhaps some one could tell me of
a supplier that ships to Canada then.
Best Regards, Janice Dehod Winnipeg Manitoba
