Has anyone on the list used Gibberellic acid or Gibberellins to increase
germination of iris seeds?
The hormone has a lot of use in some plants, as its primary function is cell
extension. Gibberellins tend to build up or increase in concentration in
seeds through leaching, stratification and chilling. Apparently the increase
in the hormone in the seed is why these strategies do work.
A search on hort-net as a whole produces quite a few articles in the past five
years, but none specific to irises of any type. Has any work been done on
dosage level or procedures been worked out for any kinds of irises that any on
the list knows about?
Jim Rohrer called my attention to a source that sells the hormone for this
purpose and provides information as a starting point for anyone who wants to
try the product.
