Re: HYB: Beard color

Fred, I am glad to hear you are working on a book. Your experience with
irises put into print will be invaluable.

As to beard color, I am astounded at what I see in seedlings. FOGBOUND, with
a beard more white than anything else, but with some peachy-pink in the inner
reaches has given me seedlings with light to rich blue beards when bred to a
deep blue-purple bearded seedling from Romantic Evening. It also has given
white, red and yellow beards.

The plush, fat rich red beards on some of Blyth and Keppel things, such as RIO
and some others is something I'd like to see on an updated CHAMPAGNE WALTZ
sort. Beard shape and richness makes quite a difference on the color
presentation apparently.

As more and more of the dwarf bloodlines are bred up into TB's through IB's
that show some fertility, we may see even more complex beard color and form
genetics than we now already have. SDB beards are astoundingly diverse.
