Re: Re: HYB: Beard color

From: Neil A Mogensen
As to beard color, I am astounded at what I see in seedlings. FOGBOUND, with
a beard more white than anything else, but with some peachy-pink in the
inner
reaches has given me seedlings with light to rich blue beards when bred to a
deep blue-purple bearded seedling from Romantic Evening. It also has given
white, red and yellow beards.

The plush, fat rich red beards on some of Blyth and Keppel things, such as
RIO
and some others is something I'd like to see on an updated CHAMPAGNE WALTZ
sort. Beard shape and richness makes quite a difference on the color
presentation apparently.

Neil:
Actually, I have always loved the beards on many of the Hamblen intros.
Enchanting (not that attractively formed of a flower, unfortunately) is a good
example; a rich blend of oil-paint hues including a light purple and (I can't
remember) some sort of coral red or peach. It's been a while; none of the
Hamblen things ever grew for me, but I still recall the vivid wet oil-paint
hues.
The closest thing I remember from anyone else was the wide, vivid true blue
beards (with horns) on Classy Chassy. Maybe the Fogbound/Lotus Land
bloodlines will reintroduce something similar.
