I've never known anyone of whom I thought that could be said. As I said, I
think some folks enjoy showing, and some, for various reasons are not
attracted to "the thrill of the competition." Surely it is understood that this was
intended to be a simple statement of observed patterns?

I do not think you have to be interested in competition to be an
"irisarian", or in showing to be a valuable and supportive AIS member. This is, of
course, just my own opinion. I'm rather removed from the question since In my case
the option does not present itself. The challenges of growing irises in my
garden are so severe that I could not produce a show stalk if my life depended
on it.
