SPEC: Iris pumila

Greetings.
 
Would someone kindly clarify something for me, please? In a recent issue of  
the Dwarf Iris Society newslettre an author states that *Iris pumila*--the 
true  species--has only been in this country for about fifty years. 
 
I thought I understood correctly that it had been imported as seed  from 
eastern Europe by the very young Robert Schreiner in the late 1920s. What's  the 
deal?
