Christian: When I moved from New Jersey to Oregon I moved about 75 siberians each with their own clump of dirt in plastic shopping bags from the local market. They were deposited at a friends house because the ground wasn't ready. All that was required of him was to give them a slight watering once a week for about a month. They were then planted with little or no noticeable problems. I still use that method when pressed for time and need to "refresh" the soil. Held this way, I've found that plants will be fine for at least 10 - 14 days out of the ground if they are kept in a cool, shady spot.
