I sometimes do this with rhizomes I don't get around to planting or when I just plain run out of time to plant.
Stored dry in paper bags and then planted in pots in March and it is amazing how fast they start showing both root and top growth. So far I haven't done it with anything special but sometimes our garden centers get their iris in September which is much too late to be planting TBs in zone 3(ish) so if I succumb to the temptation, I keep them over in the paper bags and plant them in spring.
