For a plicata you would want an inclusion plicata. One with pattern in center. Such as a luminata or a plicata-luminata. They already seem to have Ae. Then the other one would be one from plicata breeding with anthocyanin absent from edges. Such as Whispering Spirit, or ring Around Rosie. Could use Dazzling Gold or one like that.

Usually would get quite a mix from this. Including some solids and some without any anthocyain showing. Plus some lines and speckles types. As long as gene combinations line up. Lots of seedlings would help with that.

Trying to see if I understand all this - so (in theory) if I were going
to manufacture a line & speckle from "scratch", I would want to combine
something like

a seedling from, for example, DUSKY CHALLENGER, that wasn't solid dark
purple - maybe something that looked like HONKY TONK BLUES, with the
wash on the falls, but from 'black' ancestry? What kind of cross would
produce such a thing? I think I need a diagram ;-)

with a plicata? Any old plicata? Or are there supposed to be some
luminata genes in there?

Where does UNDERSTUDY fit into this story?
