I'm beginning to think the sibling crosses are where everyone came up with the 1,000 seedlings. I can see it taking that many to come up with an improvement.

Is the 'usual' approach to any kind of breeding program a lot of line breeding, followed by outcrosses between inbred lines?Certainly not what I've been doing.
