To Bob, Ian (and Peg),
Peg Biener is the wonderful gardener who was given the iris that we have been
calling uniflora. After only 2 years in her garden, the clump was large
enough to divide into not just 8, but about 15 pots (we kept 6 for the local
club), which I proceeded to distibute across NY. Since we don't have access
to either Mathew's or Waddick's books here in the wilds of upstate NY (I
suggested at meeting today we purchase Mathew's for the library where we
meet), maybe it would be simpler to try and positively identify it as
sanguinea.
The grasslike foliage was about 2 1/2 ft. tall, with a lovely pink coloration
at the base. The root system was fibrous, with just a hint of a rhizome-like
thickening. Peg said the foliage was not upright, but gracefully weeping,
and the flowers nodded on their stems. I forgot to ask about flower shape
color, but perhaps Peg will add that.
Gentlemen, thank you for all your help on this matter.
