Cheryl, I know others have told you HIPS = Historic Iris Preservation
Society, but I must warn you that AIS (American Iris Society) is awash in
acronyms. SIGNA = Species Iris Group of North America............SJI =
Society for Japanese Irises.......SSI = Society for Siberian
Irises........MIS = Median Iris Society.........SIS =Spuria Iris
Society......RIS =Reblooming Iris Society........DIS = Dwarf Iris
Society......ASI = Aril Society International.........SPCNI = Society for
Pacific Coast Native Irises. These are for starts.
Then there is TB = tall bearded iris......MTB = miniature tall bearded
iris......IB = intermediate iris.......SDB = standard dwarf bearded
iris......MDB = miniature dwarf bearded iris.....JI = Japanese iris.....Sib =
Siberian Iris......Spu = Spuria iris........PCN = pacific coast native iris
or PCI = pacific coast iris.
The world of irises is in the respect of acronyms just a reflection of the
greater American society. Being a relatively new person on line, I have had
to master a whole new vocabulary, e.g. LOL, ROF, AOL, LISTSERV, Baud for
starters. Perhaps the next generation will do away with words altgether and
